sunday social rides

wanna know what we’re all about? Our bi-weekly club rides are the perfect place to start

Sunday Social Rides are the cornerstone of Newtown Park.

As our first regular club ride, they have always embodied the ethos of the club through its emphasis on being a welcoming and social space for both regular and new riders. A time when we can catch up with new and old friends over a drink, learn group riding skills, and enjoy some quality time on our bikes.

  • Every other Sunday at 9.30am we meet up at one of our favourite coffee shops or bakeries for a little pre-ride caffeine fix and a chat.

  • At 10am our Sunday Social Stewards give everyone a pre-ride briefing, before we roll out in our pace groups of 6-8 riders.

  • Routes range from 35km to 100km. Suitable for intermediate fitness levels.

  • As it’s Bristol, there will be a hill or two along the way, but we always wait at the top of each climb. This is a no-drop ride.

  • There is no official mid-ride stops, but our routes always make sure to pass plenty of places for groups to relax and recover over coffee, cake, or even fish and chips.

  • We ride back into Bristol and park up at one of its many fine taprooms. Beer? Cider? Or NA? It doesn’t matter what you’re drinking, we’re here to hang out, enjoy the craic, and revel in the joy of riding our bikes together.

  • Riders must sign up beforehand via our Google Spreadsheet

New to group riding, cycle clubs, or just fancy a chilled party pace ride with lovely people? We offer a led-introductory ride every month.

Our Intro routes range from 30 - 60km, using a mixture of shared cycle paths, National Cycle Routes, quiet country lanes, and B roads, to help build group riding confidence. Don't worry, longer routes don’t always mean more elevation.

These rides are run at a gentler party pace of 16 - 20 km/ph (10 - 12mph) and all about getting to know each other, and the club. Because of this social pace, our Intro rides can be ridden on road, gravel, or hybrid bikes.

Keep an eye on our Ride Schedule or Instagram for details of our next Intro ride.

Intro ROUTES

Want to meet new people, explore more of Bristol’s beautiful countryside, or build your confidence in group riding? Then join us for our Regular Sunday club ride every fortnight.

These rides are all about the social side of riding our bikes together. With a variety of pace groups on offer that cater to the abilities of newer and intermediate riders than more traditional road cycling clubs.

Routes range from 40 - 70km, using a mixture of the National Cycle Network, B roads, and minor A roads. Each route includes at least one major climb. Don’t worry if you don’t like climbing. The hills around Bristol aren’t notoriously long, and groups always wait at the top of each climb. No one is left behind.

As the days get longer, we like to go a little further. Between May and September we offer routes ranging from 70 - 100km, alongside our Regular club rides. Make the most of the better weather and explore a little more of the surrounding area.

These routes take us out to some of the iconic climbs around Bristol, including Cheddar Gorge, and across the Severn Bridge into Wales, with plenty of stops along the way for refuelling. A variety of pace groups allow riders to build up their abilities over longer distances.

These rides are perfect for anyone interested in long-distance Audaxes or those working towards multi-day bikepacking adventures.
